“Six months ago, I told my wife I wanted to throw a jam for the city as a love letter from me to the scene here.

It welcomed me with open arms 14 years ago, and it taught me so many lessons I never forgot, it’s shaped who I have become and as a thank you I wanted to celebrate it.

There are people you will meet throughout your life that will impact you in ways far beyond any explanation. To know Prophet and everyone in this special scene called Hip Hop, in this enchanted state of NM, especially one of the four elements … Breakin is beyond a gift. Bboy Prophet gives his all, along with his beautiful wife Bgirl Smallz. Together, they are a force in this scene, beyond giving to their familia, to their amigos and the friends they call familia, and to everyone else they barely even know. That is their heart … they are a pillar to our community, an artery that runs far past this state, bleeding into many communities and strengthening the weave we work so hard to keep alive. Thank you from all of us for your magic, for echoing the stories and for everything you do, we see you, I see you. I am so thankful to have you all in my life and so is everyone else.

Where have you gone?

Your last breath was heard echoing through the trees, across the city, into every home, into everything that lives,

You vanished right before our eyes, as quickly as the fluttering of hummingbird wings against the beautiful blue sky,

Where have you gone?

We can still hear you, whispering through the curling pieces of clay laid across the ground,

Dried and broken cracks, veins aching for waters to return,

Stories remain, silently clinging to the empty riverbed, songs engraved in every grain of sand, resting beneath the weight of the scorching sun,

Waiting …

Miles and miles of memories etched into the scars that remain,

Wading for a current that never comes.

This project was imagined, designed, and lovingly curated by Sarah Hogland-Gurulé, who brought together a community of artists to help breathe life into her vision.

In a time of unimaginable drought along this side of the Rio Grande, we gathered to created a collective prayer for rain. A reminder of our connection to this land, to one another, and to the waters that sustain all life.

May our voice, our hands, and our art rise together as an offering. May the clouds remember us. May the rain find its way home.

Exhibit is displayed at City Hall among other beautiful Artists.

Exhibit will run until the end of August, Monday through Friday from 10am-4pm.

This display will showcase a selection of printed images from this collection, a beautiful Ofrenda designed and put together by Sarah.
